Mythological History of Earth

Dungeon of FireThe professor nodded and continued to tell my father about Metamorphosis, Sage of the Ages. “The wise sage allowed me as much time as I needed to study the Magnum Opus. As I turned the sacred book’s parchment pages, it became clear that all the mythological history on Earth, all the gods and goddesses, all the legends and fairy tales, all of our grandest myths originated on Planet Millennium.

“In fact, we need to thank Metamorphosis for our entire cultural heritage. Our language. Our customs. Our knowledge of the sciences. Our philosophical beliefs.”

Daddy scribbled on his yellow pad while the professor talked.

“Wait until people realize that our roots, everything human, came from Planet Millennium. The great sage, Metamorphosis, also taught our spiritual masters, the prophets.

“Before I went to sleep on Time Island to return home, I’m glad I had the foresight to study the names engraved on the rock platform’s surface. I was blown away by all the great explorers and writers and poets and philosophers who had visited Millennium before me.

“People like Socrates, Lao Tzu, Homer, Galileo, Dante, Shakespeare, Grimm, Leonardo Da Vinci, Thoreau, Emily Dickinson, and so many more.”

While my father lit a cigar, I tried to comprehend what I had just heard.

No wonder people were calling Dr. Wainright a lunatic.

Daddy blew three smoke rings into the library air and said, “The media is going to go crazy when I announce this stuff.”

Professor Johan sipped from his glass of scotch. “As for the gods, they are alive and well on Millennium. In their sacred Book Of Wisdom I saw descriptions and drawings of all the gods and goddesses.

“Zeus, Hades, Odin, Freya, Thor, Osiris, Isis, Brahma and Manitou. Hundreds of them, all alive on Millennium.

“I was dumbfounded when I studied the Planet Millennium maps and discovered the locations of Atlantis, Wonderland, Enchanted Forest, Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, Camelot and all the Arthurian legends and fairy tale lands and fantasy kingdoms.”

My father opened a wooden humidor and offered his friend a cigar. “I wish I had boarded the Skipbladnir so I could have seen the Magnum Opus and the maps of Millennium.”

“I should have stayed long enough to see the First Great Treasure of Octilogy, the Eternal Rose,” Professor Johan said, accepting the cigar from my father, who flicked open his chrome lighter and lit the havana.

The professor rolled the cigar between his lips and blew a puff of blue smoke into the library lights. “I loved the fabulous illustrations of the mythological beasts and creatures in the Magnum Opus. The gryphon, unicorn, pegasus, cyclops, centaur, faeries, dragons, and hundreds more described in perfect detail.”

Daddy pointed to the map on the wall. “We need proof that all our myths originated from Planet Millennium. We need a volunteer, an eye witness who everyone trusts.”

“I’m not sure about your Millennium volunteer idea. If I were you, I’d be patient and wait until Hunter wakes up, or until one of your other Coma-X patients awaken.”

“I’m not waiting any longer.”

“All right, have it your way. I’ve spent my entire career proving that myths are important to our civilization. Not once have I confused the issue with my Millennium experience.”

“Well, it’s time to clarify the origins of myth. Clear the air. Let the world know the truth.”

“I’m not sure the world wants to know the truth,” Johan declared, frowning at my father.

I sensed the professor knew something that my father could not comprehend.

Daddy stared into the professor’s eyes, turned and walked back to his desk. He gulped down his drink and said, “You told me you brought it.”

Professor Johan nodded and reached into his pocket. Laid his Triamulet attached to a gold necklace on Daddy’s desk and said, “Please, for the love of God, don’t lose this one.”

My father grabbed the medallion by the gold chain and held it up to the light.

From behind the sofa, I watched the shiny medallion gleam in the amber lights, swinging back and forth between my father’s fingers.

I felt an attraction to the sacred Triamulet.

Like a moth to a flame, I was drawn to it’s golden glow.

“This is the undeniable evidence that will prove that Planet Millennium exists. All I need is one volunteer, someone with a healthy ego who has not traveled there, and we can prove the Coma-X patients’ whereabouts. The origin of myths, legends and fairy tales.”
